Allison Birdsall – How Has Yoga Changed My Life?

Allison Birdsall – San Francisco, CA

Not only has yoga transformed my bodymind, but it healed my tired soul.  From a fatigued, sickly teen into an energetic healthy mom, I have come a long way.  The practice found me when I was a teenager.  The first class I took was a huge revelation for me.  I had never moved my body like that, and I knew I needed to do it more.  Depression and anxiety were my default modes.  Pain was chronic and infection was frequent, I was the victim.  I started taking a mindfulness based prenatal yoga class once my daughter showed up in my belly.  Mindfulness and breathing were so profoundly impactful that I knew I needed to share it with the world – and hopefully someday, my Christian family and friends.  I took the teacher training for this type of prenatal yoga and my life was forever changed.  We meditated for an hour every day for 9 days straight.  We did not rid our minds of all thoughts and transcend into the spirit world.  We were guided into the beauty of the here and now, into the God given HUMAN experience.  This alone opened my heart and soul to the presence of God in the most intimate way; I never looked back to the ways of finding God that my upbringing taught me.  Colors looked brighter, food tasted better, I had more love and compassion for those in my life – I felt ALIVE – I felt LOVED.  Since then, the journey has been exponentially rich and powerful.  I found my people, my community, my spiritual gifts, my very own SELF LOVE.  I have learned how to take ownership for my own bodymind, how I live and breathe.  I love to share many different styles of asana, breathing and meditation practices.  They all serve a purpose.  My life has become a constant prayer, a living devotion to the nurturing of the love and light within us all.  If you want to know God, know your body, the very essence of your own creation.  I offer deep gratitude to the beings that have guided me along this path, I am eternally grateful for this lifetime.

For my family…  Whom I love with all my heart, body and soul…

1 Corinthians 15:44 …If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God IN your body.
