The Yoga Alliance certified Joy of Yoga Teacher Training has two phases, a 100 Hour Foundations training and a 100 Hour Dynamics Training. The JOY of Yoga Teacher Training is valuable for those who has been practicing yoga consistently who wants to significantly deepen their understanding of the implications, theory, history and philosophy of the practice, learn more about how to use their yoga practice to enhance and transform their lives, and for those who aspire toward teaching. The JOY of Yoga program provides a rigorous and yet supportive environment that enables its students to find their passion, on or off their mat and summon the courage to act on it. Offered since 2007and implemented nationally and internationally, graduates receive a 200 hour certificate which is recognized by Yoga Alliance. These hours can be applied toward the JOY of Yoga 500 hour program.
The JOY of Yoga Dynamics Training is considered Phase 2 of the JOY 200 hour yoga teacher training. Once you have completed Phase 1, Foundations, we will discuss your aspirations to teach. This training addresses the “Dynamics,” or asana, in its many expressions of Hatha Yoga, including flow-based practice including o overview of Ashtanga Vinyasa and Flow Based practices, Yoga in a heated room and specifically Tapas Yoga, Gentle Yoga and Restorative Yoga. We will address principles of alignment, sequencing, learn how to “read bodies” and perform safe and effective assists. In the Dynamics training we’ll continue studying anatomy with another twenty hours with Dr. Brant Pedersen. We will be finding or refining our own unique voice and enhancing the passion for our practice in the company of others who share in the same passion, and in the words of Joseph Campbell, ‘following our bliss.’
One both trainings have concluded, you will take Sanskrit and Anatomy exam when you feel ready. Once you have passed both exams, you will schedule with Jennifer your final “test out” class. When you come to teach that class, you’ll present the class in written form, word for word. Upon completion of the class upon the sole discretion of Jennifer, you’ll be awarded a 200 hour teaching certification and can register with Yoga Alliance.
