Yogis! Are you ready to delve deeper into your study of the Butter Yoga method?! On March 25th we will explore how cultivating symmetry in all body systems will help us achieve greater physical, mental, and emotional ease. Symmetry in this context means that all elements of a system work optimally with each other through application of appropriately timed engagement and release. The longevity of the body is dependent on this symmetry so let’s get going and share the yoga-inspiration!
In our first session, Butter Bridge Yoga, we will explore how activation of our musculature helps foster the necessary tension to maintain joint congruency. This practice will be a strength-based approach to developing symmetry in the body systems so that we can glide along like a boat on a glassy lake. The time will fly by as we explore many different approaches to this goal. Of course I will also intersperse some practices to help you modulate the more subtle stress and rest systems to keep the brain and nervous system toned as well. About an hour of this class will be heated (85-95 degrees) so bring water and perhaps a towel.
We will have a break as we transition to our next session. This is time for you to change out of damp clothing, rehydrate, relax, connect with other butter warriors and have a fat dense snack before our next session starts.
In our second session, Melted Butter Yoga, we will explore how mobility is a delicate dynamic element in our bodies that requires a certain approach to be safe and effective. We will move between tension/mobility to systematically recalibrate the different body tissues (e.g. connective tissue, muscle, bone, and nervous tissues). In this session I will also teach different practices that help you develop your ability to engage and relax your attention so that you can respond flexibly in this world of constant change.
Note: Yogis, please remember to bring a fat dense snack, some water (perhaps with some electrolyte if you like that), a towel and a change of clothes, oh and yourself and a friend! If you have a health condition or injury that prevents you from practicing in a heated room or from doing active muscle contraction you could consider coming to just the second session.
