About Tias Little

Tias synthesizes years of study in classical yoga, Sanskrit, Buddhist studies, anatomy, massage, and trauma healing. Tias began studying the work of B.K.S Iyengar in 1984 and lived in Mysore India in 1989 studying Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga with Pattabhi Jois. Tias is a licensed massage therapist and his somatic studies include in-depth training in cranial-sacral therapy. His practice and teaching is influenced by the work of Ida Rolf, Moshe Feldenkrais and Thomas Hanna. Tias is a long time student of the meditative arts and Buddhist studies beginning with Vipassana and continuing in Tibetan Buddhism and Zen. Tias earned a Masters degree in Eastern Philosophy from St. John’s College Santa Fe in 1998. He lives in Santa Fe New Mexico where he directs his school Prajna Yoga with his wife Surya and is author of three books, The Thread of Breath, Meditations on a Dewdrop and Yoga of the Subtle Body.

For thousands of years, the body in yoga has been thought to be made up of five primary elements. In this in-depth study you will learn the anatomical, energetic and psychological components of each element in the body while practicing postures, breathing techniques, meditations and interior seals to direct the flow of energy. Tias teaches through imagery, anatomical drawings, poetry and metaphor to illustrate the connection between the five elements and the subtle body in yoga.

Earth: The Pelvis
Wednesday, May 9th | 9:30am - 4pm

The root of the spine within the pelvic floor is the ground for all growth in yoga. This class explores mula bandha, the tailbone and the perineum. Our aim is to create flexibility in the lateral hip rotators and stability and lightness at base of the spine.

Water: Sacrum
Thursday, May 10th | 9:30am - 4pm

It is essential to stay fluid and light in the hip joints and sacral region. In this class we practice ways to bring equilibrium and stability to the sacrum and sacral-iliac joints. We do SATYA movements and asana to mobilize the lower abdomen and to lift uddiyana bandha.

Fire: Solar Plexus
Friday, May 11 | 9:30am - 4pm

The third chakra is a common place for constriction due to stress and emotional holding. This class stretches and opens the lumbar spine, psoas muscle and region around the kidneys and adrenal glands We practice twists and supported backbends in the asana practice and pranayama with focus on inhalation.

Air: Chest Cavity
Saturday, May 12 | 9:30am - 4pm

Prana flows through the lungs and heart, upper ribs and sternal region. This class explores the pulse of the prana in the chest emphasizing techniques for the shoulder joint, the scapulae and the collar bones. In asana we do backbends and in pranayama practice Viloma I and II.

Space: Neck/Palate/Ear
Sunday, May 13 | 10am - 1:30pm

When training the subtle body it is essential to release pressure within the sensory organs: the eyes, ears, tongue and facial skin. In this class we practice asana, mudra, and pranayama for the jaw and throat and cranial bones. In pranayama practice we activate the “bumble bee breath” while bringing ease to the cranial rhythms.
