Sama Ashtanga 5-Day Yoga Intensive

ChuckMiller

Join senior-certified Ashtanga Vinyasa teacher, Chuck Miller, in a five-day progressive intensive as he shares with us a collective of ancient wisdom in the context of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Practice. This intensive will begin with the basics and will move progressively into the more essential practices within the practice, knowing the path to mastery is to experience the profound power of the beginner’s mind. If we go deeply enough to the beginning of things there will be a more natural unfolding of the development which is more intelligent, with more enjoyment, more pleasure, and more love.

We will work to create a deep and broad sense of foundation, dynamic-stability and then bring this to life as living roots of our practice.

As we pay attention to the essential core practices (Breath Roots Core) that are central and relevant to practice, we learn to relax and allow the practice to unfold in a natural authentic way.

We will examine how advancing can sometimes mean retreating, and learn how to sit deeper within ourselves, cultivating patience and persistence within the practice. We can choose how to improve based on a higher objective and by aiming higher, we can see what needs to change.

The intensive will consist of 5 days divided into a morning session and an afternoon session incorporating both practice and theory. It is recommended to attend all sessions – or at least to understand that the five-day intensive is designed to be like one class.

Amount of challenge, difficulty and intensity is completely individual. Requirements are an open mind and a willingness to learn better how to take good care of yourself.

About Chuck

Chuck Miller began practicing yoga in 1971, and studied the Ashtanga vinyasa method of practice and its underlying philosophical system one-on-one with its founder, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, for over 18 years beginning in 1980. By practicing and teaching the method before, during and after the yoga boom, he has developed a simple, effective approach that changes the lives of those who do it.

Chuck enjoys teaching with a focus on the holistic nature of Ashtanga yoga, presenting it as a philosophical system as well as a strong practical method. Chuck is known for his gentle but deliberate hands-on adjustments which are both reassuring and challenging.

Yoga teacher since 1988, Chuck is a former Director of Ashtanga Yoga and co-owned the original Yoga Works in Santa Monica, CA, for over 16 years. He is frequently traveling and teaching around the world.
