Sanskrit: Discover the Essence of Yoga

Kirti-Saran-Sari

This Sanskrit course is designed for those with little or no exposure to the Sanskrit language and for those who have the desire to understand and pronounce Sanskrit words with confidence and clarity. Sanskrit is an ancient language which was used to write scriptures and poems forming the very root of yoga. Many shy away from Sanskrit due to lack of familiarity with the language thereby hindering them from a deeper exploration of yoga. This course is specifically designed to teach you the correct pronunciation of Sanskrit letters, learn the Devanagari lipi (script) and enable you to read ancient texts. Having lived both in the east and the west it is my endeavor to bridge the gap that exists between the two. My goal is to impart confidence and open doorways to teachers and scholars alike.

This course covers the following:

  • Identification of the letters of the Sanskrit alphabet using both IAST (International Association of Sanskrit Transliteration) and Devanagari script
  • Proper pronunciation of the sounds of letters including certain gutturals, palatals, cerebrals, dentals, and labials which do not exist in the English language
  • A thorough understanding of the Sanskrit names of asanas by breaking them down into syllables
  • Familiarity with words used in ancient scriptures such as the Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana, Yoga Sutras etc.
  • Recitation of mantras and shlokas along with a deep understanding of their meaning
  • Assistance with pronunciation (using various tips, tricks and techniques) and a patient approach towards those who are not familiar with the language

This course is eligible for 15 hours credits toward the JOY of Yoga 300 Hour Teacher Training. This course is also eligible for 15 CEUs (continuing education units); hours will be broken down on the certificate of completion, available after the last day of training – please contact aurelia@breathetogetheryoga.com.

By enrolling in this course, you are giving Breathe Together Yoga permission to share your email with the facilitator so that she may be able to send you material related to the course.

Sessions will be recorded and available for a limited time period.
