Packed with vitamin C, carotene, vitamin B12, vitamin B6, and L-theanine, the benefits of matcha powder definitely outweigh those compared to a regular cup of green tea or coffee. On the ORAC (oxygen radical absorbance capacity) scale, matcha stands at 1384 ORAC units per gram, making it an antioxidant powerhouse! Since matcha also contains the amino acid L-theanine, it is a helpful aid to promote mental clarity and calm, without promoting the jitters that often follow from ingesting caffeine from coffee.

Our monthly special at Mandala Tea House features our matcha smoothie, a bright-green, creamy and delicious drink that will definitely wake up your tastebuds and body. If you’re unable to make it into the Tea House this month, here is the recipe to make in the comfort of your own home:

Ingredients

  • 8 oz almond milk (we prefer our house-made almond milk)
  • 1 whole banana, frozen
  • 1 cup spinach, organic
  • 1 tsp matcha*
  • ½ oz honey syrup
  • ⅛ tsp vanilla extract
  1. Combine all ingredients in a blender and pulse until smooth.
  2. Enjoy!

Notes

  • If you’re looking for an unsweetened version, omit the honey (or sweeten to taste).
  • *We use ceremonial-grade matcha which is packed with antioxidants and flavor.
