Join Marcela Christjansen and Jesica Fernández, Assistant Professor, Critical Race & Ethnic Studies, Santa Clara University for a multi-session dive into Día de los Muertos.
Wednesday, October 30th, 7:15pm – 8:15pm
Día de Los Muertos is a traditional practice of remembrance and celebration of the coexistence of life and death. We honor life and its impermanence through rituals, traditions and presence. At this event, which is a community gathering for conversation and craft-making, Jesica will share the history of Día de Los Muertos, specifically how Indigenous communities of México have practiced this long tradition, how it has changed over time, and how it is now embraced by many other cultures and communities. Together we will reflect and share stories, as we engage in creating cultural offerings (crafts) to build an “ofrenda” for the altar for our beloved at Breathe Together Yoga. All are welcome — come as you are! All materials will be provided.
Saturday, November 2, 12:30pm-3:30pm
On this Día de Los Muertos event, let’s come together and celebrate life, wellbeing and the lives of those we’ll love forever.
As tradition goes, we get an opportunity to celebrate this day of remembrance and connection by setting up the traditional altar that creates a welcoming space and portal with the ofrendas you created during our Wednesday conversation, including some of their favorite foods, drinks, and photos.
In addition, as a way to establish a true celebration of the lives that have been lived, we’ll practice yoga together holding space for connection through breath, welcoming sequences and guided meditation. Through our practice we get to invite our loved ones’ spirits to join us and enjoy a good time, as well as to share moments and memories about them.
This event is about the joy of life and everyone is welcome. Come join us and let’s celebrate our lost loved ones through the joy of breath, movement and meditation!
We would love to see you attend both parts of this offering, and have made options available for those who can only join one session.
We’re sorry, but we don’t offer refunds or account credit on workshops or trainings.
This workshop will be conducted in-studio.
