Do you want to live a long healthy life well into your 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and Beyond?
Longevity studies are quickly discovering the keys to living long, healthy and productive lives. Diet, exercise, sleep & community seem to be the main contributors, but there are a few more behavior patterns to consider. This workshop will explore how yoga, creative movement and lifestyle practices can keep you living well into many more decades.
Functional Yoga is a style of movement based upon understanding our skeletons, muscles, tissues, physiology, temperament, and behavior modes are uniquely ours. It is yoga that equips us to age well with time and prepares us to handle real-life everyday activities such as bending, sitting, lifting, loading, pulling, pushing, squatting, balancing, and hauling. These tasks are referred to as ADL’s – Activities for Daily Living that can become challenging as we grow older.
Functional Yoga brings personalization to your movement practice, whether you are young or older, into Ashtanga, Vinyasa, Hot, Gentle, Yin, Chair or Restorative Yoga. It honors where you are at in life. It focuses on individual body types, shapes, and genetics. It hones in on your bone structure, if you have injuries, an illness, or physical/psychological limitations. It honors your lifestyle, interests, and level of unique fitness. It functions to bring yoga to you and taps into how poses feel, as opposed to how they look, and the overall experience of your yoga practice. It is really moment to moment Movement Therapy!
This movement modality ~ honestly is about just moving into your time of life with love, grace, strength, awareness, and flexibility in Mind ~ Body ~ Soul.
So often we do our yoga with outdated notions of what yoga poses can do for us at our stage of life. As time continues, our yoga must alter to meet the changes in the tightness, energy, sensation and capacity of our time. As it turns out “one size does not fit all”. Essentially, this workshop is about making yoga about YOU and not about a cookie cutter approach or a style of yoga that is deemed healthy for everyone.
We will explore from head to toe various poses and traditional sequences exploring strength, stamina, endurance, and flexibility appropriate for who we are. We will dive into the following movement topics:
It is never too late to change! Learn and understand life enhancing techniques to improve your health and longevity!
