Kirtan 101: An Expression of the Heart

Kirtan is a yearning of the soul and an emotional expression of the heart.  Learn how to give a voice to your devotion by using the harmonium as a tool to chant mantras and shlokas.  Host kirtans using the traditional method of call and response.  Music has been used for centuries as an outlet for our innermost emotions and to foster a sense of community.  It is not required to be a musician or a vocalist to experience the joy and fulfillment of this age old practice.  Bhakti (devotion) is the direct link between you and the universe and everyone is entitled to this bliss.  

Embark on this journey with me and experience joy, complete expression and a new dimension to your personality.

This course covers the following:

• Introduction to Harmonium – learn the sargam (scale) and how to play melodies
• Explanation of sacred Mantras and Shlokas
• Explanation and Chanting of Hanuman Chalisa
• Discover your voice
• Harness your kirtan power

This course is eligible for 15 hours credits toward the JOY of Yoga 300 Hour Teacher Training. This course is also eligible for 15 CEUs (continuing education units); hours will be broken down on the certificate of completion, available after the last day of training – please contact aurelia@breathetogetheryoga.com.

This immersion is taught by Kirti Saran, B.Sc., Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India – Chemistry (major) Biology (minor), E-RYT, YACEP and holder of a graduate diploma in classical Indian dancing (Bharatnatyam) from Bhartiya Nritya Kala Mandir in her hometown, Patna, Bihar, India.
