Mapping the Inner Life

Hand of the golden Buddha 02

This intensive addresses the ways that a variety of cultures and spiritual traditions have utilized the imaginative capacity of the mind to visually point to experiences that are beyond the reaches of language. We will study early maps of consciousness and the subtle body; including visual depictions of yantra, koshas, chakras, vayus, the Buddhist mandala and Buddha families, altars and puja space, and the role that dreams play  to support a deeper understanding of the realms of meditation and awareness practice. We will also explore contemporary depictions of how awareness practices brought to the creative life, through creative applications of all kinds, can bring us  into a felt sense of deeper presence.

The scientific ground we will cover includes science of flow, EEG | MRI studies, long-term trait changes, neurofeedback, and creative practices from a wide variety of traditions. Students will leave with new awareness practices they can use to turn within and express their inner lives, while teachers will come away with an array of practices to support their students.

To participate, please have a consistent mind-body practice (yoga asana, qigong, or tai chi) and meditation practice. You do not need to have taken a yoga teacher training to participate in this intensive.

This course is eligible for 15 elective hours toward the JOY of Yoga 300 Hour Teacher Training. It is also eligible for 15 CEUs (continuing education units); hours will be broken down on the certificate of completion, available after the last day of training – please contact Aurelia.
