Music Workshop: Let’s Play

Ricardo Ibanez Jem 9x9

Psst! You know that guitar that’s been sitting there in the corner. Go on: play the thing! In this workshop, Ricardo will guide participants through really useful stuff like preparing the mind, building self-confidence, tuning and caring for your instrument, left and right-hand synchronization, and learning to listen. And most importantly, absolutely no prior experience is necessary to attend this workshop. Let’s have fun!

About Ricardo

Known variously as “that guitarist,” or “that musician,” “that yoga teacher,” or “that guy who can stand on his head,” or “that parent,” or “that cat dad,” or “the IT guy,” Ricardo is more or less known for the first thing in this sentence. The Ricardo guitar – not to mention string and electric bass, mandolin, banjo, lute, guitarron, balalaika, guitarra Portuguesa, harp, 二胡, 琵琶, ukulele and anything else with strings on it – can be heard in his teaching studios and in a motley assortment of classical, jazz, rock, and theatrical contexts.

After many years as a performer and instructor, Ricardo sees himself as just a guy constantly hearkening back to his amateur status as a guitar player having fun and playing gigs. As for aspiring guitarists who might want to lose their amateur status, his advice is to put a guitar in your hand; that comes first. Everything else is secondary. If that’s your only priority, you’re going to make it.
