Jois developed the Ashtanga Yoga method, a practice famous for its asana sequences, which over time have been modified and popularized throughout the world under many different names (e.g., vinyasa, flow, power, rocket). The first sequence, or Primary Series, is called Yoga Cikitsa, translated as Yoga Therapy. This series aims to purify and heal the body, and ultimately becomes the foundation of one’s practice. The Primary Series is arguably the most important sequence, one that every ashtanga practitioner continually returns to for deeper understanding.

This workshop will focus on the following: (1) Introducing the history, philosophy and lineage of Ashtanga Yoga; (2) Discussing specifics and subtle aspects of the Primary Series; (3) Learning important chants and Sanskrit words; (4) Practicing an abridged led Primary Series together as group.

At the end of this workshop, you will have the tools you need to move deeper into your practice. All levels of practice are welcome; all will learn.

Note: 70% of the proceeds of this workshop will be donated to Operation Shanti (http://www.operation-shanti.org/) to help those in need in Mysore, India.
