Japanese calligraphy, originally introduced from China, has long been used not only as a form of written communication but also as a beautiful meditative art. In Japan, as we welcome a new year, it is traditional to set an intention and express it through calligraphy.
In this workshop, you will choose your word for 2026 and write it in Kanji on a small foldable board to create your own meaningful artwork. You can take it home and display it as a daily reminder of your intention.
You will be guided through the basics of Japanese calligraphy—posture, how to hold and move the brush, working with black ink, and more. No knowledge of Japanese is needed. Simply come with an open mind and a willingness to explore a new, mindful practice.
We will begin with light movement to relax the body, then share a moment of meditation with Japanese green tea to prepare you for creativity and focus.
All tools will be provided, but if you have a favorite calligraphy brush or other materials, feel free to bring them.
Note: Mariko could help you choose your word/letter but it may be helpful to look into Google or AI to find which letter/word you may want to write beforehand.
This event is limited to 15.
We’re sorry, but we don’t offer refunds or account credit on workshops or trainings.
This workshop will be conducted in-studio.
