In this Clinic, we will apply a therapeutic approach to the asanas of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Primary Series as a platform to learn how to support yoga practitioners during their practice. This Clinic is available to all levels of yoga practitioners and will be conducted in-person only.
The Clinic will be offered over five 3-hour sessions, totaling 15 hours. There will be partner work involved in all sessions.
Session 1. Fundamentals
Saturday, October 19 1-4pm
During this session through a series of Dyadic Exercises, we will learn grounding techniques, space holding, observation, and preliminary pattern recognition.
Session 2. Fundamental Adjustments Part 1
Saturday, October 26 1-4pm
We will use the Surya Namaskar A and B sequences as a gateway to review basic alignment principles that apply to all the standing postures and how to support people in those postures.
Session 3. Fundamental Adjustments Part 2
Sunday, October 27 1-4pm
In this session we will learn how to support people during the seated postures of Primary Series. We will look at the pelvis, its role and function and how it supports the spine.
Session 4. Fundamental Adjustments Part 3
Saturday, November 9 1-4pm
In this session we will investigate twists, backbends as well as inversions and the many ways we can support students in these postures. The emphasis will be on the safety of shoulders.
Session 5. Integration
Sunday, November 10 1-4pm
In this session we will bring it all together, review some of the more advanced postures of the series and address any remaining topics from the last four sessions.
We encourage you to register for the entire course though you may register for each session individually.
