Join us in an author event to celebrate Anjali Rao’s book, Yoga As Embodied Resistance: A Feminist Lens on Caste, Gender and Sacred Resilience in Yoga History. The book illuminates the often unseen and unspoken relationships between caste and gender in yoga, and bridges scholarship, history, and cultural analysis. Uplifting stories of women or kathas from different periods in yoga history, Anjali’s work offers pathways and reflections to re-envision a yoga grounded in liberation, inquiry, discernment, and dissent.
The evening will begin with a centering and dive straight in! Please come prepared for an engaging conversation that culminates with a reflection practice for ongoing inquiry. She will read portions of the book, followed by a Q & A session and a book signing.
Anjali is an alum of the Joy of Yoga 300-hr teacher training and has been part of the school’s faculty. She is excited to be back at Breathe Together Yoga.
Anjali Rao brings an intersectional and decolonial feminist lens to the study of philosophy and yoga history integrating storytelling, art, and poetry. She is the host of The Love of Yoga podcast bridging scholarship, activism, and yoga. She has served as the President of the Board of Directors of Accessible Yoga Association, a non profit dedicated to ensuring accessibility and equity in yoga spaces to people of all backgrounds.
She is currently pursuing a PhD in Philosophy and Religion in California Institute of Integral Studies. Her book, Yoga As Embodied Resistance: A Feminist Lens in Caste, Gender And Sacred Resilience in Yoga History, North Atlantic Books is available for pre-order, and available from October 14, 2025.
