Though beets have the ability to make your kitchen look like a scene out of a horror film, don’t let this intimidate you! Known for their deep, red color and earthy, yet sweet taste, beets are loaded with vitamins, minerals, and plant compounds. Nitrates are one compound in particular that pack a serious punch. Dietary nitrates are converted into nitric oxide which dilates blood vessels, thus helping lower blood pressure and improve blood flow in the body.

Our Heartbeet Hot Chocolate combines heart-healthy beet juice with chocolate and spices to warm your heart from the inside out. While it’s only available at Mandala Tea House for the month of February only, you can make it at home with the following recipe:

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup milk of your choice (we prefer our house-made almond milk!)
  • 1 ½ oz chocolate sauce (try making your own, like we do at Mandala Tea House)
  • 1 oz beet juice
  • ⅛ tsp cloves
  • ⅛ tsp cardamom
  • ¼ tsp orange extract

Directions

  • Combine all ingredients in a milk frothing pitcher.
  • Steam until hot chocolate has reached desired temperature, and enjoy!

Notes

  • For an unsweetened version, add 2 tbsp cacao powder instead of the chocolate sauce.
  • If you do not have a milk frother, combine all ingredients in a small saucepan and gently heat on a stovetop.

Add a shot of espresso to turn your Heartbeet Hot Chocolate into a Heartbeet Mocha!
